Artefact was part of the team hired by the City of Bethlehem’s Redevelopment Authority to redesign the site and landscape around the newly constructed ArtsQuest building, a contemporary performing arts center, on the former Bethlehem Steel property. Our work included renovating one of the last remaining flywheels in the open area. The flywheel was representative of several on the site that once generated power for the plant’s blast furnaces. After cleaning and stabilizing the flywheel, we developed fencing and paving patterns to interpret missing components of the former machinery.
